Copilot can now track edits at the word level using Track Changes, allowing revisions to remain visible and auditable throughout the editing process. It can also manage comments directly in the document, insert tables of contents, and create headers and footers with dynamic fields such as page numbers.

For more complex, multi-step edits, Copilot now shows in real time what it is working on. Microsoft says these capabilities are powered by “Work IQ,” a layer that tailors responses to the individual user and their organization. The company adds that data stays within Microsoft 365 security boundaries.

The new features are initially available only on the Windows desktop through the Frontier program in the Office Insiders Beta Channel. Support for web and Mac versions is expected to follow.
